‘While we see the opportunity from an academic perspective to explore locations and place through the community of Palette & Trowel we also see it as a rare opportunity to engage with people with similar attitudes to life.’

The moors above Ravenscar contain a fine prehistoric landscape.  The area around Ravenscar has been transformed over the centuries by extraction of jet and alum. These transformations have left significant earthworks and structures which we will take time to analyse and discuss.

We will then walk through the  Mulgrave estate and spend the rest of the day exploring the remarkable remains of two medieval castles set within a dramatic woodland landscape.  This will also be an opportunity to engage with photography and sketching as a means of recording and responding to the historic environment.
